The third season of the series was premiered on September 20, 2006. At the beginning of the season we come to know that Caroline Rhea is back as the host of the third season. For this season there will be fifty contestants one from each state. There is a bit of change in the trainers this time as a new trainer is introduced who will replace Jillian. The trainers watch the contestants while they are exercising. Next in the episode, the trainers choose contestants who they will be training. The contestants get a surprise when they learn that only fourteen of them will be participating in the show and the rest of the 36 contestants will have to leave the show and will have to compete from home. Once both the trainers have chosen their teams the contestants go through a difficult exercising regime. For the first challenge the contestants have to go through an obstacle course. The Red team wins the challenge. At the end it is Jen who becomes the first one to be eliminated from the show.

In the next episode of the series, the contestants are taken out from the ranch, in order to get some change. They are taken to the beach, where they workout, eat and sleep in the tents. Ken learns that his nineteen year old son is hospitalized. While they are at the beach they have to go through a lot of difficult workouts in the sand. For the reward challenge the contestants have to build sand piles large enough for them to remove a flag hanging from a pole. The Red team wins the competition. After the challenge its time for the eliminations and the contestants decide to send home Tiffany from Blue team. In the next episode of the series, the teams are taken to a cruise. For their reward challenge the contestants have to deliver meals to the different parts of the ship, where in turn they get to meet their family members. The wining team gets to spend time with their family. Red team wins the reward challenge while the Blue team wins at the weigh-in. After this exciting challenge, it is time for the eliminations and the contestants decide to send home Nelson from Blue team. It is also expected that Heather Hansen became pregnant on the cruise, where she got to meet her family as the reward, as she was five months pregnant at the finale. In the next episode of the series, the Red team is feeling very low especially after the elimination of Nelson.

Because of their feeling low they do not follow instructions from Kim, disappointing her completely. For the immunity challenge the contestants have to eat plates of food and then pile them up, the contestant who could eat the maximum wins the challenge. It’s Kai who wins. For the next challenge the team members have to walk up ‘down’ escalators until only one team is left. Red team wins the challenge. Brian becomes the biggest loser of the week. At the eliminations, the contestants decide to send home Melinda from Blue team. In the next episode of the series, the contestants get a shock when they learn that they will not get to exercise in the gym for this week. This means that they will have to do all their exercises without machines but their trainers will be there to help them.
